Debbie Zanki

Nutrition Consultant

& Lifestyle Mentor

Hi, I'm Debbie

I'm one of the weird ones that didn't mind getting older

And when you know my story you'll understand why. It's how I came to be interested in health and ageing well.

Most of my immediate family and brothers-in-law passed away in their 30's, 40's, and 50's due to cancer or heart-related disease. Not wanting the same fate, I found my passion of researching health & wellness. And make it past 60!

What I need changes as I evolve, learn and experiment through different life stages. There have been AHA moments.

And I haven't always done it "well", even though there are things "I know I need to" do

In my 30's and 40's I thought I was "eating well", yet my body was giving me signals - the ones we put down to "getting older" or "normal". Things like reflux, headaches, low energy, body-aches and stiff joints. I was also gaining weight and feeling "puffy".

To feel better - in and about myself - I chose to change what I was doing and so in my late 40's I started with my diet: what I was eating on a daily basis.

Being aware and exploring how I can support my body in what in needs to function optimally. Spoiler Alert: it's more than just food.

I'm positive that the changes I made helped:

  • to manage my weight & symptoms through perimenopause and beyond
  • to feel energised without relying on caffeine and sugar
  • to remove those daily body-aches and headaches
  • to just feel good about myself

There's:

  • No deprivation
  • No counting calories

In my 50's, I graduated as a Functional Nutrition Consultant: learning about Vitalism and using a holistic approach to health. My mind was blown. No wonder we are overwhelmed when it comes to making health-related changes!

Now I'm in my 60's #celebrate however, my bone health has suffered due to all the years I didn't take action. Even when I've known what action to take. Action for the long term health benefits and what I want ageing to look like for me.

And sometimes it's harder when we leave things too long. Yet, it's always a good time to start

My mission is to create awareness, empower and support others to be self-aware.

  • To not settle for the 'Diet Culture' or "getting old" mindset
  • To consider what ageing looks and feels like for you
  • To look at the long term instead of the quick fix
  • To make a start and take the action

And so, A Healthy Awareness was created...

Healthy - in a good physical or mental conditions. Indicating or promoting good health. Normal, natural and desirable. Showing physical, mental. or emotional well-being. Beneficial to one's physical, mental or emotional state: conducive to health*

Awareness - the quality or state of being aware; knowledge and understanding that something is happening or exists. Promoting a heightened awareness of the problem*
