Hi, I'm Debbie - one of the weird ones that didn't mind getting older
And when you know my story you'll understand why.
Most of my immediate family - and brothers-in-law - passed away in their 30's, 40's, and 50's from cancer or heart-related disease.
That kind of loss changes you.
It's what sparked my deep curiosity about health, ageing, and what's actually possible when we pay attention to what our body needs. And personally, to make it past 60! Getting older is a privilege I don't take for granted.
I haven't always done it "well", even though there are things "I know I need to" do
In my 30's and 40's, I thought I was "eating well" - and yet my body was quietly sending me signals I kept dismissing. The reflux. The headaches. The low energy. The weight creeping up. The body-aches. The feeling "puffy". I was just "too busy" to stop and deal with it - putting myself last.
Sound familiar?
And then the symptoms got bigger. The lump on my thyroid. The crazy periods.
I started making changes - starting with food, and then going deeper. In my 50's, I graduated as a Functional Nutrition Consultant: learning about Vitalism and using a holistic approach to health. Discovering just how interconnected everything is. My mind was blown. No wonder we can be overwhelmed and confused when it comes to making health-related changes! But also, how AMAZING is our body?
I'm positive that the changes I made helped:
There's:
Along the way I developed a deep empathy for women whose lives are ruled by the number on the scale. Where the smallest gain triggers stress, self-criticism, and another diet. That's not a lack of willpower. That's what happens when the focus has been on the wrong thing, and when a multi-billion dollar dieting industry profits from keeping it that way. You deserve better than that.
Now I'm in my 60's, #celebrate, I understand more than ever that it's always a good time to start making changes. My bone health suffered from the years I didn't take action - even when I knew what to do. Because information alone doesn't make the dfference.
These foundations I share aren't just what I recommend. They're what I live - most of the time. Because progress beats perfection every time.
Cheers,
Debbie
